Sam Lowes leads the way on opening day in front of home crowd

Friday 2 September 2016

Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 racer Sam Lowes kicked off in the best possible way today his home race, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone: the 25-year-old English rider set the fastest time at the end of both of today’s Free Practice sessions thus closing a positive first day of practice, which was slowed by a few drops of rain.

Lowes was fastest in the morning session with a lap time of 2’09”346, then he improved to 2’08”428 in the afternoon session, ahead of Japanese Takaaki Nakagami and German Jonas Folger. Tomorrow Lowes will be back on track for the third and final free practice session, before the Qualifying session that will decide the starting grid.

SAM SAID

“Actually today all riders got about 20 minutes of dry practice in both sessions, then the rain made it impossible to continue the work on the bikes. Anyway we were all in the same condition and is still nice to be in front. According to the forecast tomorrow morning the track should be dry, while the Qualifying session could be held in the wet, but it’s not a problem for us. Sunday, however, the race will be 90% dry: it’s clear that weather conditions will change a lot, but we are not worried about that. I feel good, I’m relaxed, I like the track and I’m enjoying my home race. We can still improve the bike, so I’m looking forward to speak with the team tonight and make a good plan for tomorrow. We know that we need to get a good result this weekend if we want to keep alive the title fight, but we are confident and we will keep working!”.
