LOWES CRASHES WHILST CHALLENGING FOR THE LEAD IN PORTUGAL
16 October 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes was battling for the lead on lap 10 at the team's home Parkalgar circuit near Portimao in Portugal when he lost the front of his bike and crashed unhurt. Despite remounting he was forced to retire.
Sam is racing again at the Sunflower Meeting at Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland on 21st and 22nd October. Local favourite, TT winner and road racer Michael Dunlop will join Sam on the team for this event.
Sam Lowes:
"I am absolutely gutted not to finish. I felt good, my Parkalgar Honda was great and I was within touching distance of Chaz in the lead. I was pushing hard and simply lost the front. I am disappointed just as much for Parkalgar as I would have loved to have won my first race here at our home track. It's been a good learning season and a big thank you to all my team and the supporters at Parkalgar - and of course to my fans, we will be back!'Onit!'"
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam was in contention for the race win and went down fighting. We are all disappointed in the race result but I congratulate him on having a fantastic first season at World Championship level. No-one will deny that with the experience he has gained he is going to be a title contender in 2012 and we look forward to that with a lot of relish.
Thank you to Parkalgar, Elf, LeoVince, A&A Lamb, CIA Insurance, Bogdanka and Honda for all their support this season, it's been a fantastic season and now we will focus on 2012 and finalise our plans - more news on that soon."
LOWES AIMS FOR PODIUM BUT STARTS SIXTH!
15 October 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes is sixth on the grid but has pace in hand as he never pulled together the perfect lap - he is targeting the podium. The race starts at 1330GMT on Sunday, October 16th at the stunning Parkalgar track on the Algarve coast in Portugal.
Sam Lowes:
"That was a tough qualifying session but the second row is not so bad and we know that we can run with any of the other bikes here. My Parkalgar Honda is a great package and I really want to reward the team with a good result and finish the season on a positive note in front of our fans. It's incredible for me, I am being welcomed here like I am part of the Portuguese family with so many people wishing me well - thank you and I can assure you that the support makes a difference."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam is in very good shape for the race but is not used to being on the second row in qualifying. He never quite got a clear lap but if he had then he would have been on the front row, the ideal times show that. It's his last chance this year to show what he can achieve and I am confident he will be challenging for the rostrum again."

LOWES LOOKING GOOD IN PORTUGAL!
14 October 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes is third on the provisional front row for Sunday's 12th and final round of the World Supersport Championship at the team's home Parkalgar circuit near Portimao in Portugal.
There are more practice and qualifying sessions tomorrow before the race takes place at 1330GMT on Sunday 16th October at what is widely recognised as one of the best race tracks in the world.
Sam Lowes:
"On my fast lap I was held up very slightly by some slower riders at turn 10 and that maybe cost us a little time. There is a lot more to come from me than just that. I am still perfecting my lines round the track and will follow Miguel in the morning to get a few more pointers as he knows the track well. I will be concentrating on the final corner and exit on to the straight and there is a lot of time to be gained. The weather is brilliant, we are on the pace and know there is much more speed to come. It's a great weekend and I can't thank the Portuguese fans enough for their support, they are great!"
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"It's been a very good day for Parkalgar Honda at our home track. Sam is doing a great job and both he and the team know that there is more to come and what to do to achieve it."

IMPRESSIVE LOWES RUNNER-UP IN FRANCE!
2 October 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes scored an impressive second runner-up spot in two weekends after fighting for the win at Magny Cours in France during the 11th and penultimate round of the FIM Supersport World Championship.
Sam Lowes:
"I struggled for the first few laps with myself more than anything but I kept clawing away at it. When Luca came past me I dug deep but did not have the pace to catch him. Still, it is another second place and a big thank you to my team for all their support this weekend. I am looking forward to Portimao in Portugal for the final round - that is the home of my Parkalgar Honda team and I want to be fighting for the win there."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"That was a brilliant race by Sam to finish second. He's now finished runner-up for the last two races and he is showing impressive form as we head to our home track at Portimao in Portugal. Third place in the Championship is just seven points away and with our home crowd at Parkalgar it will be all to play for."
The Parkalgar Honda team are already planning ahead to the final round of the Championship at their home Parkalgar track near Portimao in Portugal on Sunday 16th October, where Sam will be doing all he can to get that elusive win. To buy tickets to the event visit www.autodromoalgarve.com.pt.

Sam Lowes:

Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):

LOWES ON THE PACE IN FRANCE
30 September 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes set the sixth fastest time in first qualification for Sunday's 11th and penultimate round of the FIM Supersport World Championship at Magny-Cours in France.
Sam Lowes:
"I am really happy and positive. I did loads of laps and was very consistent. I am not far off the pace and there is so much to come from me I am confident for tomorrow. Through just three corners I can make the time up and there is more to come from the bike. I am really happy despite only being sixth. I can't wait to be getting back on it, there is lots of room for improvement."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):

SUPERB SECOND FOR LOWES AT IMOLA!
25 September 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes fought from 11th place at the end of the first lap to finish an incredible second at the World Supersport race at Imola in Italy, less than 2/10ths away from the race win.
Sam Lowes:
"To be fair it has been a difficult weekend for me after missing most of the first qualifying session because of a crash, but the Parkalgar Honda team did a fantastic job on my bike and improved it enormously in time for the race. I didn't make the start I wanted and was well behind but got my head down and got into the battle. I am really happy to get second and can't wait to get to Magny Cours next weekend."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam did a fantastic job. He came back from a poor start and rode what I think was the best race of his career to finish second. He is building momentum as the season draws to its climax."
LOWES QUALIFIES ON SECOND ROW AT IMOLA
24 September 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes will start from eighth position on the second row of the grid for tomorrow's 10th round of the World Supersport Championship at Imola in Italy, after taking 1.2seconds off his lap times from yesterday.
Sam Lowes:
"The second row is OK, although not where I really want to be. After missing most of qualifying yesterday we are a little behind everyone else. We have some areas we can improve and I think it will be a close race and I will be on it doing my best, I feel good."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam is playing catch up after missing most of first qualifying but he is on the second row and we are working hard to make sure he will be in the fight and we are positive for the race."

LOWES CRASHES IN FIRST QUALIFYING AT IMOLA
23 September 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes crashed early in qualifying and was unable to get back out so ended the day in 10th position. He was fastest in morning practice and is confident he can secure a good starting position in final qualifying.
Sam Lowes:
"It is a real shame I crashed; I felt good, probably felt the best I have all year. I couldn't get the bike back to the pits to get it fixed so that was the end of the session. The good news is we definitely have got the speed and I made a mistake and will not repeat it again - I've learnt from it. I am looking forward to tomorrow, the weather is to be dry, so I think everything will be OK in second qualifying."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam made a mistake early on, crashed and couldn't get the bike back. He's annoyed with himself at the crash but he's not hurt and we will be focused tomorrow."

GERMAN PODIUM FOR INJURED LOWES
4 September 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes rode through the pain barrier to take a brilliant podium third place at the ninth round of the World Supersport Championship at the Nurburgring in Germany.
Sam Lowes:
"I want to apologise to the Parkalgar Honda team for the three crashes I had yesterday. I put them through a lot of work and harmed my own chances of winning by injuring myself. In the race the first five laps were like dying again I felt so bad. Then as the race wore on my injured foot got worse, making changing gear very difficult. I have learnt a lot in the race and everything is alright; it is good to get back on the podium. I am very happy for my team-mate James to get second. Now it is on to the next race and to keep learning and progressing."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"After the crashes Sam wasn't anywhere near full fitness and the race wore him out; it was great to get on the podium in this condition. Sam really is beaten up - we are proud of him and his determination to finish."
FRONT ROW FOR LOWES IN GERMANY
3 September 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes crashed in the morning practice and then crashed again early in the afternoon qualifying. He failed to improve his lap time but starts from the front row in fourth thanks to his speed yesterday.
Sam Lowes:
"I've been through the mill today. I crashed hard this morning and then again early in the afternoon. I need to take a step back and come with a different approach tomorrow. We know we have the speed and the ability to challenge at the front so I am looking forward to a good warm up and then a decent race."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam crashed this morning. He slid off again this afternoon but has been checked out by the Clinica Mobile and we expect him to be back to form tomorrow for the race."

LOWES DOMINATES DAY ONE IN GERMANY
2 September 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes was fastest in the morning wet practice by nearly three seconds and then took a convincing provisional pole position in the dry afternoon first qualifying session more than half a second faster than anyone else at the ninth round of the World Supersport Championship at the Nurburgring in Germany.
Sam Lowes:
"This morning was mega. The Nurburgring is a track I like but don't know that well. This morning we made changes and got my Parkalgar Honda working good and finished up nearly three seconds faster which is positive as it might be wet on Sunday. This afternoon we tried a few bits and managed two decent laps. Definitely there is a lot more to come from me and the bike. We have a decent pace but it is not perfect and that's what we are working on now."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam has had a good day and is improving all the time. He's got positive momentum and there is more to come from him and his bike."

LOWES APOLOGISES FOR SILVERSTONE CRASH
31 July 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes crashed out of todays World Supersport race at Silverstone on the third lap after running into the rider in front of him mid-corner. He remounted but was unable to finish. The next round of the Championship is at the Nurburgring in Germany on the 4th September.
Sam Lowes:
“I just want to say sorry to everyone who came here to cheer me on and to my Parkalgar Honda team. I made a mistake and ran into a rider in front of me early on in the race and lost the front, crashing out. We are working hard and we will get the job right soon.”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“Sam got a bit excited at the start of the race and made a mistake that cost him the chance to win. He’s young but he has the talent and the speed; we will work with him to put in place the last piece of the jigsaw that will see him winning races – his day is coming soon.”
TOP BRIT LOWES QUALIFIES SECOND AT SILVERSTONE!
30 July 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes will start from second place and is the leading British rider after qualification for the eighth round of the World Supersport Championship at Silverstone in the UK. The race starts at 1330GMT tomorrow, Sunday, 31st July.
Sam Lowes:
"That was a good qualifying session. We worked a lot on our race pace and only used one tyre at the end, - even then I mucked up the first lap, hit traffic on the second lap and then took second on the third lap when the tyre was well past its best. We have made a massive step forward for race distance - we are very confident for tomorrow. It's been a mega job by the whole Parkalgar Honda team, I can't wait to get racing."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam has race winning potential, he spent most of the session concentrating on set-up for race distance. He only used one soft tyre in the session and hit a bit of traffic on his first two fast laps but still recorded a 2m 08 on this third lap to take second on the grid - very impressive."

29 July 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes is second on the provisional grid for Sunday's eighth round of the World Supersport Championship at Silverstone and is confident he will be fighting for victory on Sunday in front of his home crowd.
The race starts at 1330GMT on Sunday 31st July, after further practice and qualifying sessions tomorrow (Saturday).
Sam Lowes:
"I did my fast laps by myself and comfortably in qualifying. I am relaxed and enjoying my riding. There is plenty more to come from me and my Parkalgar Honda - and it is only Friday, so we will try some more things tomorrow. I am very motivated to do well this weekend at my home race and for all the fans."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam started the weekend well and is showing the pace to contend for victory. Gino got his usual tow and it took him to pole position and then he held Sam up on his last lap, but we are not worried about this. We have more improvements to make for tomorrow and we are looking forward to it."

LOWES TARGETS VICTORY AT SILVERSTONE!
25 July 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes will be challenging for his best ever result in the FIM Supersport World Championship this weekend at his home round of Silverstone. Currently sixth in the series, just 12 points adrift of second place men Broc Parkes and Fabien Foret, Sam is determined to put on a good show in front of his home crowd.
Sam is looking for his first victory and Silverstone is one of his favourite circuits. There are practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday before the race at 1330 GMT on Sunday 31st July.
Sam Lowes:
"I just can't wait to get racing, I really enjoyed Donington earlier this year and the huge amount of support we received. I love Silverstone, I raced there twice last year and won the race and British Supersport Championship at the circuit, it is a good one for me. I know the track and what to do straight away and should be on the pace to go all out for victory."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"We have been challenging for victories all year with Sam and it would be nice to achieve it at PTR's home race. Sam has ridden at Silverstone before in wet and dry conditions and is very motivated to win."
BIKE SPEED by Simon Buckmaster
13 July 2011There is always a lot of talk about the speed of bikes on TV and in the press but rarely do the people making the comments take a proper look at the whole story. It irritates me when commentators say our 2011 bike is slow when that plainly isn't the case - you don't get three podiums with a weak engine.
In our case in races where our bike has allegedly not been fast enough there have been other factors. Mostly it is Sam they look at (although James Ellison is always good on actual top speed). In Australia for example when Sam got drafted to the line after leading at the final bend he actually got into the turn just a little hot and lost drive. Also the third rider in the group Broc Parkes had the advantage of a double draft. Sam is by far and away not the first rider to get passed to the line like this.
Strangely enough at the next Donington Pk round where Lowes and Ellison had the two fastest bikes on the speed trap no one took notice of this. He fell in warm up in Aragon and injured his shoulder a little again which affected his drive onto the main back straight. He still rode a great race though to miss out on victory to Chaz Davies by just 0.5 of a second. Sam's time is coming!
Another point most people don't take into consideration is that both the factory Yamaha and Kawasaki have more gear ratio's than we and Ten Kate do - this also has a big impact on acceleration and when your bike gets to its top speed. Earlier in the year people were saying nothing could touch the Yamahas. Now after some races where they have not been the dominant force does this mean they have gone backwards? No it does not. It is just that both our bike, the Ten Kate Honda, the Yamaha and the Kawasaki are actually very evenly matched and depending on the nature of the circuit each bike has its strong points. Take Brno where in Sam Lowes case we geared the bike short to use 6th gear; had it not been for the bad tyre, Sam said our bike was for sure quicker than the factory Kawasakis and the same or even better than Chaz Davies Yamaha.
Gino Rea on clearly a slower bike actually just rode the wheels off it and congratulations to him on taking his first victory in WSS. Brno is that type of track where actual top speed is not everything. You can always tell who has the actual quick bikes with a good overall package as they are always up there. As with Gino you do get the odd race where people shine more than normal. Sam had only ridden at Brno once in 2009 and his lack of knowledge showed a little, although by the end of warm up we clearly had the pace and only a faulty tyre robbed him of another chance to challenge for victory.
It is Silverstone next where I fully expect him to be right there. Scassa has gone off the boil a bit so time will tell if he re-finds form and challenges for victory. He finished a disappointing for him seventh in Brno; does this mean his bike is suddenly slow? No it does not!
This is just a bit of an insight into things regarding who has the fastest bike and who does not. Some of you reading this will already be aware but for those of you who had not considered some of the points I have raised here I hope this will give you another view when you watch the next races. Just think, they pay Neil Spalding good money for information like this on Eurosport!
Cheers
Simon
SIXTH PLACE FOR LOWES AT BRNO!
10 July 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes has battled his way to a sixth place finish at the seventh round of the World Supersport Championship at Brno in the Czech Republic. He had been challenging in the top three but then dropped back as he lost grip from his tyres much earlier than expected.
Sam Lowes:
"I got an OK start and felt good on my Parkalgar Honda. I was working my way through the field and was closing the gap to the leader thinking I could challenge when I lost grip in my tyres. It was sudden and unexpected and there was nothing I could do but concentrate and ride as hard as I could with the grip I had. Sixth is not what I wanted but it's points and the best I could do given the circumstances."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam didn't get a great start but was looking good in third when the grip went away and there was nothing he could do. He did the right thing to bring the bike home and get points and is now looking forward to his home race at Silverstone next time out."
The next round of the Championship is at Silverstone in the UK on 31st July where Sam will be more determined than ever to win in front of his home crowd.
SIXTH ON THE GRID FOR LOWES AT BRNO!
9 July 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes will start from sixth on the second row of the grid for tomorrow's seventh round of the World Supersport Championship at Brno in the Czech Republic - and is part of six strong group that looks likely to contest the victory well ahead of the rest of the field.
Sam Lowes:
"I had an intermittent electrical problem during qualifying that made my job difficult but at least I am on the second row and well within touch of the leaders. With the fault fixed I expect to have more pace and I am happy. It's going to be a long hard race but I am up for it and am consistently fast on race tyres - I'll be in the mix for the podium, no doubts."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam had an electrical problem on corner entry that we have identified and will fix - he will be in the hunt for the win tomorrow and is in great shape over race distance."
LOWES FIFTH AFTER OPENING QUALIFYING AT BRNO!
8 July 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes was fifth in the opening qualifying session at Brno as he worked hard on re-learning the track and setting up his Honda CBR600RR. He has a good direction and is looking for the front row in final qualifying.
Sam Lowes:
"We are still working on the setting and gearing for my Parkalgar Honda, so fifth is pretty good. I feel there is a lot more to come from the bike and I definitely know there is more to come from me. We have been really consistent today and I've done more laps in the 2m04s bracket than anybody else. I am happy enough and we know what we need to do to make a big step tomorrow. I feel good now and we can move forward from here."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam is right there in contention, his race pace is consistent and we have gearing options we want to try for the twisty sections. It is tight at the front but we are confident we can challenge for pole position in final qualifying."
LOWES IMPRESSES WITH SECOND PLACE AT ARAGON!
19 June 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes has taken second place at round six of the World Supersport Championship held at Motorland Aragon in Spain, his best result in the World Supersport Championship to date, after enjoying a race long fight for the win right to the chequered flag.
The next round of the Championship is at Brno in the Czech Republic on 10th July, however, Sam is in action again next weekend Sunday 26th June at the Mallory Park Race of the Year.
Sam Lowes:
"It's been a decent weekend. I suffered a couple of crashes that were my mistakes but I have scored my best ever finish as well. I struggled to keep pace at the start but as the tyres wore it came back to me and I was sitting in third. I was on the limit and then it was unfortunate for Broc to crash. Chaz then picked up his pace and I couldn't see where I could overtake. It's another podium and that is good - I just want to get riding again now and can't wait for Mallory Park next weekend to be racing at home."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam aggravated his shoulder injury in a small crash this morning and that meant he couldn't change direction quick enough to get into the draft on the straight. He composed himself well and rode a great race - his best ever result, it is only a matter of time before he wins."
LOWES READY TO FIGHT FOR VICTORY AT ARAGON!
18 June 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes has secured third place on the grid for tomorrow's sixth round of the World Supersport Championship at Aragon in Spain and is confident he can compete for the race win.
Sam Lowes:
"That is another good qualifying - I have been on the front row every race so far this season and I am pleased to keep that record. I need to get a good start but there is no doubt I can run with Parkes and Salom. We had a good long run today and our race set-up is very good. I am ready to fight for victory."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"It's another good job by Sam, he is one of only three riders in the 2mins 2secs band and certainly has the pace over race distance to compete for the win. He had two small crashes today but is absolutely fine and we later found that there was a technical issue with a fork slider that we have now fixed."
PROVISIONAL FRONT ROW FOR LOWES IN SPAIN!
17 June 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes sits provisionally in third place on the grid for Sunday's sixth round of the World Supersport Championship at Motorland Aragon in Spain and is relaxed and confident he can run at the front all weekend.
Sam Lowes:
"I am happy as we are still changing a lot on the bike and making improvements every time I go out - we are working on the agility of my Parkalgar Honda and know we can improve more. We were the only ones to go faster in the afternoon because of the incredible heat and that is encouraging. This is Kawasaki and Yamaha's test track so to be this close on the first day is great. I am very happy."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"We tested here in the winter, but it is much warmer today. Sam is third and only half second off pole - that is good as Kawasaki tested here recently and there is more to come."
LOWES RETURNS TO THE PODIUM AT MISANO!
12 June 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes has taken a well-earned third place at the fifth round of the World Supersport Championship at Misano in San Marino, getting faster as the race wore on and finishing less than three-seconds from winner Broc Parkes.
Sam Lowes:
"I didn't make the best start and the riders around me were going very well. When I did get stuck in, everyone else was on the pace so it was hard to make passes. I made a few mistakes and couldn't close down Broc or Fabien. Anyway, I am happy with third; I am back on to the podium and now I can move forward from here."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam got boxed in at the first corner but then composed himself. He left it a little late to challenge for the win and was held up by a backmarker but showed real speed and ability towards the end of the race - which gives us confidence for next weekend at Aragon."
The next round of the Championship is at Motorland Aragon in Spain next Sunday, 19th June.
LOWES ON POLE POSITION AT MISANO!
11 June 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes has taken his first ever World Supersport Championship pole position after rain this afternoon meant that yesterday's qualifying times were never going to be challenged at the Misano circuit in San Marino, Italy, at the fifth round of the series.
Sam Lowes:
"Today has been mega. We found a lot this morning with the set up of my Parkalgar Honda and only Broc Parkes was able to match my time - but I was on a well used tyre. I think I could have gone 0.750secs faster with the improvement we found - we tried a new shock mid session and instantly it was better. I can't wait for tomorrow, my bike's awesome. Even if it's wet for the race I can ride in the wet - I am very confident to be fighting for the win here, although I would prefer it to be dry."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"That's a great job by Sam and the team, we are very happy to secure our first pole position this year. Although we didn't better the time today due to wet qualifying, I am confident we could have done so. With Sam we will be fighting for our first victory of the year tomorrow."
LOWES TOPS FRIDAYS TIMES AT MISANO!
10 June 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes signalled his return to fitness by being fastest in practice before taking provisional pole position in qualifying for Sunday's fifth round of the World Supersport Championship at San Marino's Misano circuit.
Sam Lowes:
"It is good to get back riding and back where we belong on the timesheets, I am really enjoying myself. My Parkalgar Honda is such a good package and I am happy with provisional pole but will be working hard to see if we can improve further. My target is the race win, plain and simple, Onit!"
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam's done a great job today, he is back to full fitness which shows with provisional pole. There is still some improvement to come from him and the bike so we will work together to try and secure our first pole position of the season tomorrow."
HEROIC LOWES FINISHES FIFTH AT MONZA!
8 May 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes has ridden through the pain barrier with a broken collarbone to secure an impressive fifth place at the fourth round of the World Supersport Championship held at Monza in Italy.
Sam Lowes:
"That was a hard race in the heat and with my injured shoulder. I really wanted to finish the race and rode safely within myself - I am ok with fifth given my condition. My Parkalgar Honda was great and I am really looking forward to getting back to full fitness and challenging for the win at Misano next month."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"That was a heroic ride for Sam given he broke his collarbone just three weeks ago and did not take any pain killers this weekend. A fully fit Sam Lowes would have been challenging for the race win I am sure and we look forward to having him back to 100 per cent at the next round."
SUPERB LOWES QUALIFIES SECOND ON THE GRID AT MONZA!
7 May 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes will start from second place on the grid for tomorrow's fourth round of the World Supersport Championship at Monza in Italy after an amazing performance in final qualifying - only three weeks after breaking his collar bone at Assen.
The race starts tomorrow at 1330CET with a final warm up session in the morning for fine tuning race set-up.
Sam Lowes:
"I am really happy qualifying on the front again. We have worked hard on race pace and I want a strong solid race. My shoulder is a bit sore but I have had no pain killers and I am confident it will be fine for the race."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"A fantastic ride by Sam, he has qualified on the front row at every race so far. He has done a good job with his team and has excellent race pace."

PROVISIONAL SECOND ROW FOR LOWES AT MONZA!
6 May 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes sits on the second row of the provisional grid in seventh position after first qualifying for Sunday’s fourth round of the World Supersport Championship at Monza despite riding with a collarbone broken less than three weeks ago
There is another practice and final qualification session tomorrow before the race takes place at the super-fast Monza circuit on Sunday at 1330CET.
Sam Lowes:
“Seventh place is OK given my broken collarbone. Today was about bedding myself in and seeing how strong I am. We are in good shape and my Parkalgar Honda is fast. I will rest now and am looking forward to doing our best to improve tomorrow – we are onit!”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“Sam did a great job today riding with his broken collarbone only just healed. I am sure he can challenge for the front row tomorrow."

LOWES RECOVERING AFTER ASSEN CRASH!
17 Apr 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes has suffered concussion and a broken collarbone following a huge high side in the World Supersport race at Assen earlier today that caused the first of two red flags during the race.
He was battling for the lead of the race with the two ParkinGO Yamaha's of Luca Scassa and Chaz Davies when the incident happened. He was attended to at the scene before being transferred to the clinica mobile and later to hospital.
He now has three weeks to recover before the next round of the series at Monza which takes place over the weekend of 6-8 May.
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam high sided while going for the race lead and has broken his collarbone and suffered concussion. We will be doing all we can with him to make sure he recovers quickly and fully; we expect him to be racing at Monza. He again showed his undoubted talent and his day will come."

BRILLIANT LOWES SECOND ON GRID AT ASSEN!
16 Apr 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes will start from second on the grid for tomorrow's third round of the World Supersport Championship and has race winning potential.
Sam Lowes:
"I am really happy, Scassa and I definitely have a gap on the rest of the field and if anything, my race pace is a little bit better than we showed in qualifying. Tyre wear will be an issue here and my Parkalgar Honda manages its tyres well so we can race right to the end. I rode plenty more laps and made changes to the balance of the bike. Every session I have got better and better and we are in good shape for the race - my Parkalgar Honda is balanced, handling well and looking after the tyre. This is my third front row of the year, that's mega!"
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Great performance by Sam, seven minutes to go he was fastest but we didn't want to use another tyre so we have more options for the race. We were pipped at the end but it's a great job by Sam and the team."

LOWES ON FORM AT ASSEN
15 Apr 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes was an impressive fourth fastest in opening qualification for the third round of the World Supersport Championship at Assen despite being held up on his last laps by traffic.
Sam Lowes:
"I ended up fourth but we were first for most of the session. I have not ridden the track in this format and it is taking a bit of getting used to. I am getting things dialled in though and my consistency is good, I am just 0.3s off pole and you have got to be happy with that. In the morning I will go out and do laps and then I'll be on it in the afternoon, there is a lot of time left in me. Towards the end of qualification on my last two laps I was held up but it is only Friday and there is more to come."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam finished the day on the provisional front row. He is consistently in the mid-low 39s and that is competitive. There are improvements as a team and from him so we expect to be challenging for pole tomorrow."

TECHNICAL ISSUE DEPRIVES LOWES OF POTENTIAL WIN
27 Mar 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes was forced to retire from third place during the race due to a clutch problem.
Once he had progressed to third, his lap times combined with his set up and tyre choice would have enabled him to challenge for victory in the latter stages of the race, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
The third round of the World Supersport Championship is at Assen in Holland on 17th April.
Sam Lowes:
"It is a real shame that I had a clutch problem as I was closing in on the two leaders and feel sure that I could have won the race - I got the lap record just before retiring. I was upset, I really wanted to win here in front of my home crowd. On the positive front we have shown how fast we are and now I am looking forward to making amends at Assen."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam suffered a clutch problem when he was in third and looking like he could challenge for the victory. It is immensely disappointing for all of us. The team will be looking hard into what caused the problem to minimise the chance of it happening again. However, Sam has again shown a level of maturity and speed that marks him out as something special and we look forward to seeing what he can achieve at Assen in three weeks time."
FRONT ROW CONFIDENCE FOR LOWES
26 Mar 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes will start from third on the front row of the grid in tomorrow's second round of the World Supersport Championship at Donington Park and is confident he can challenge for the victory.
The race takes place at 1330GMT tomorrow, Sunday 27th March.
Sam Lowes:
"I had a crash at Craner Curves mid-session and that meant I didn't have an opportunity to improve my lap times. Anyway, I am not hurt and am starting from the front row which is important. I think on race pace I can compete right at the front and it will be full gas - we are in good shape."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Both Sam and Miguel crashed which is unfortunate but thankfully neither is hurt and the damage to the bikes is not extensive. Sam is in great shape and on race tyres over the full distance is looking strong, so we expect him to be challenging at the front."

LOWES FRONT RUNNING AT DONINGTON
25 Mar 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes is provisionally second on the grid for Sunday's second round of the World Supersport Championship at Donington Park after dominating the time sheets for most of the day - and he has plenty more time to come.
Sam Lowes:
"I am happy with that, especially because I was distracted by slower riders on my fast laps, there is plenty more to come if I get a clear run tomorrow. My Parkalgar Honda is working well and there are two of us clear of the rest of the field which suits me fine if that happens in the race. It's been a very positive day."
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"Sam is on the pace and looking good. He was held up by slower riders on his fast laps but remained calm and focussed and goes into tomorrow in a strong position."

LOWES GOING FOR GLORY AT HOME RACE!
21 Mar 2011Parkalgar Honda’s Sam Lowes is looking to challenge for his debut win at the second round of the World Supersport Championship at Donington Park this weekend.
There are practice and qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday before the race takes place at 1330 GMT on Sunday, March 27th.
Sam Lowes:
“Coming off the Phillip Island result, this weekend is my home race and I’m looking forward to it. We want to be building on what we found out at Australia and going for the win.
Donington is a circuit I’ve done quite a lot of riding at and I’ve always gone well. Hopefully a lot of people will be there supporting me and the team. I live just an hour away from Donington Park so it is very much my home track.”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“Sam rode a great race in Australia and without wanting to put pressure on him, both he and the team will be disappointed if he is not fighting for victory again at Donington Park."
LOWES DEBUTS WITH BRILLIANT PODIUM AT PHILLIP ISLAND!
27 Feb 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes finished his first World Supersport race for the team in a thrilling third place, just 0.033seconds behind race winner Luca Scassa at Phillip Island.
Lowes led for several laps and was in the lead coming out of the last corner before being drafted to the finish line. The next round of the Championship is at the team's home track of Donington Park in the UK.
Sam Lowes:
“It was a really good race for me - my first time in the Championship with Parkalgar Honda. I was a bit nervous but I got a decent start and then made some moves on the riders around me. I knew it was a long race and was thinking about tyre wear. I passed Luca on the last lap but did not get a mega run on to the start/finish straight. Third in my first race is great; I am loving my team and my bike, I am enjoying myself.”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“What a superb ride by Sam to finish third on his debut for the Parkalgar Honda team. He went into the last corner a little too hot in the lead and lost some drive and the other two were able to get past him on the run to the line - but that takes nothing away from his achievement; this is his first time at the track and in our team. Sam’s bike was strong everywhere, the package was good and no one can be disappointed with the result."

FANTASTIC FRONT ROW FOR LOWES AT PHILLIP ISLAND!
26 Feb 2011Parkalgar Honda’s Sam Lowes has qualified in a superb third position for the opening round of the World Supersport Championship at Phillip Island in Australia and is relaxed and confident ahead of the race.
Sam Lowes:
“It was a real good session this morning for race times and distance. In the afternoon I wanted to see what lap time I could do. I ended up going consistently fast with a lot of laps in the mid-34s which is great. But I do need to work on my fast one-off lap for qualifying. My Parkalgar Honda got better as I went faster. I am really happy as we did a lot of work on race pace in the second free practice on a hard tyre. If I can get off the start well then I have as good as anyone race speed and will use my head and manage my tyre. I feel good.”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“Sam is fantastic and very consistent in the mid-34s. He has got podium potential for sure and will be in the hunt at the front of the race."

LOWES SHOWS IMPRESSIVE FORM DURING PHILLIP ISLAND TEST
22 Feb 2011Sam showed promise by finishing the official two-day World Supersport test at Phillip Island in fifth place.
He now has two days of practice and qualifying on Friday and Saturday before the opening round of the series this Sunday, 27th February.
Sam Lowes:
“For my first time at Phillip Island I am happy with what I have learnt and pleased we are so competitive early on. Now I know my way around I should improve for the race weekend and we are not far off already. I had a couple of crashes yesterday and took a different approach today that worked. I am relaxed and excited for the opening round, I’m going to be onit!”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“It’s been a good test for Sam. Yesterday he allowed a few things to rattle him but today he remained calm and progressed forward. He worked on his lines with help from James (Ellison) and got down to 35.0s. Although other riders have put in fast laps, realistically Sam is on a good race pace and can improve more."

TESTING RESUMES AT PHILLIP ISLAND
21 Feb 2011Sam has continued with his pre-season development programme during the first day of the Phillip Island test in Australia.
He reduced his times as the day progressed and will be looking for more fast progress tomorrow. It is Sam’s first time at the circuit and he will benefit from the time on track.
The test concludes tomorrow and the opening round of the World Championship is at the same circuit, starting with practice and qualifying on Friday and Saturday before the race on Sunday.

GOOD START FOR SAM
1 Feb 2011Sam finishes his two day test at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain in positive mood after completing dozens of laps and testing different settings in dry but cold weather.
Parkalgar Honda returns to the UK to update the race bikes before they are shipped to Australia in time for a test at Phillip Island; just before the opening round takes place at the same circuit on Sunday 27th February.
Sam Lowes:
“ We did a lot of laps over the last days and we have moved my Parkalgar Honda forward. I have a good feeling with my bike at Aragon and spent the end of the test fine tuning for feel and rear grip. My last run was consistent and fast so that is a good position to leave here on and I am ready for Australia now. We are onit.”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“It was cold for both days but it was also dry and a very good test. Sam was right on the quickest pace with James Ellison on our sister Bogdanka PTR Honda and those pair were clearly faster than any of the other Supersport riders. Sam has a good feeling for his Parkalgar Honda and the knowledge of the track will be beneficial when we return.
The summary for Parkalgar Honda is the team is good and getting better - I am very happy with the work put in by the whole squad; it has been a very busy couple of weeks but everyone has pulled their weight and we have plenty of data to be working with to improve our bikes further.”
SAM TESTS AT ARAGON
31 Jan 2011Parkalgar Honda's Sam Lowes spent the day learning the new 3.321-mile long Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain ahead of the World Supersport Championship returning to the new venue on 19th June.
Straight from the official Portimao World Supersport tests at the Parkalgar track in Portugal, Sam was not only learning the new circuit but was continuing the team’s development and test programme. They have another day at the track tomorrow.
Sam Lowes:
“It’s been a good day, cold but dry at Aragon. I love the track, there is a lot to it, the first half is really twisty and the second half is fast. I’m glad to be here as I think learning a long track like this on a race weekend would be difficult.”
SAM FASTEST OVERALL AT PORTUGUESE TEST
28 Jan 2010Sam has topped the three day official World Supersport test at the awesome Parkalgar circuit in Portugal with a lap time set on the opening day as wet weather dominated the last two days.
Sam Lowes:
“Conditions were greasy today and on an out-lap I was two foot wide and lost the rear. I came down hard on my right foot and I’ve broken a bone. I can ride no problem and went out again. I had a previous crash but it was small and I was unhurt. For me the test has been awesome, very positive. On the first day it was proper dry and we showed speed and consistency. We achieved that and the fastest lap of the entire test on very little time and with few changes to the bike - so the potential is enormous and that’s the best thing I take away from here. In the full wet I was quickest and finding it comfortable. The third day was a bit of a write off as it was damp and we couldn’t test anything but overall I am very happy.”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“Sam has had a good test; he was fastest in the wet and dry. He had two crashes but we have talked about this and I am sure he will learn from it. His bike feels good, he is happy and he has gelled with his team, those are big positives."
SAM SHOWS GOOD PACE IN THE WET
27 Jan 2010Sam showed impressive wet weather pace during today’s two World Supersport test sessions at the Parkalgar circuit in Portugal.
He led the wet morning practice and concentrated on his wet settings in the drying afternoon session, eventually finishing fourth, and remains fastest overall from the times set in the dry yesterday. The test concludes tomorrow.
Sam Lowes:
“This morning was fully wet and I was consistently faster than everyone else and had an excellent connection with my Parkalgar Honda. The afternoon session was wet to begin with and I was the fastest again but a dry line started to appear from mid-session and right at the end some riders took advantage of it with intermediate tyres. I decided that rather than chase lap times I’d try a few changes to my wet suspension settings. We have good pace in the wet.”
SAM FINDS EARLY SPEED ON FIRST DAY
26 Jan 2010Sam got to grips with his CBR600RR quickly on the first day of the official Portimao World Supersport test at the team’s home track in Portugal, slashing more than 3.5-seconds from his morning lap times to head the standings at the end of the day.
Sam Lowes:
“The Parkalgar Honda team is working really well together and I am starting to get a good feel for the bike. I did my fastest lap on the harder of the two tyres. I am happy with my lap time and progress on the first day has been good - I am looking forward to tomorrow.”
2011 IS GO FOR SAM AND PARKALGAR HONDA
25 Jan 2010Sam starts his assault on the 2011 World Supersport Championship tomorrow when he takes part in the opening official test at the team's home track of Parkalgar in Portugal.
There are three days of testing at Parkalgar before the team moves on to the new to the calendar Aragon circuit in Spain on 31st January and 1st February for further tests and to get to know the track.
Sam Lowes:
"I just want to get started and ride my Parkalgar Honda. This is a shakedown test for us as I don't know the circuit that well but it is nice that I am starting my official WSS career at the team's home. It feels good and it is a big step up for me to be here. I hope the weather is good for the test and now I just want to get onit."
MEGA START FOR SAM WITH PARKALGAR HONDA
16 Oct 2010Sam is fired up for his winter training and testing programme after scoring a podium on his first outing for the Parkalgar Honda Supersport team at the end-of-season Sunflower races in Northern Ireland.
HE led much of the opening race at the unfamiliar Bishopscourt track near Downpatrick but a last lap mistake allowed circuit specialist Marshall Neill on a near identical PTR tuned Wilson Craig Honda to just take the honours. After taking the hole shot in the second race of the day he was forced to retire. Up against Superbikes in the Sunflower race he finished an excellent eighth and first 600 home.
The team now goes into the off-season with data from Sam to help with the development of the World Supersport Championship Parkalgar Honda race bikes and is looking forward to the official tests early in 2011.
Sam Lowes:
“What a mega start with the team. It is different in a lots of areas to what I am used to and in a very good way. I have got to know Phil Marron my crew chief and the Parkalgar Honda – there is so much potential here and I can’t wait to get back out. The first race was great and went down to the last lap but I broke hard and on to one wheel into a corner allowing Marshall through for the win. In the second race I got a great start but had to pull in a little later which was a shame. The race against the Superbikes was good fun as I could push them in the corners but on the straights they were difficult to live with. This is a mega start and I am really happy with everything.”
SAM DEBUTS FOR PARKALGAR HONDA
15 Oct 2010British Supersport Champion Sam Lowes got his first run out with the Parkalgar Honda team during qualifying for tomorrow’s Sunflower races in Northern Ireland, finishing second on the Supersport grid. He also qualified seventh and first 600cc rider in the feature Sunflower race that is open to Superbikes.
There are two Supersport races and the Sunflower feature race tomorrow at the Bishopscourt circuit near Downpatrick in Northern Ireland.
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
“Today started our 2011 build up and we are very happy with how Sam is settling in with the team and on his bike. He is getting up to speed quickly and despite very restricted time on a brand new track he has never visited before he is 1.2secs under the lap record and did that on a race tyre. We are learning more about him and how he rides with every lap – and he is learning about his bike and us; there is a lot more to come."
SAM TO MAKE PARKALGAR HONDA DEBUT AT SUNFLOWER
11 Oct 2010Reigning British Supersport Champion Sam Lowes will make his debut for the World Championship race winning Parkalgar Honda team at the prestigious Sunflower race meeting near Downpatrick in Northern Ireland on 15th and 16th October. Practice is on Friday 15th October with two races on Saturday 16th October.
Sam Lowes:
“The idea is to go to the Sunflower and give initial feedback to the team on the Parkalgar Honda and anything I might need to change about it. That will set us up in good stead for the rest of the winter and when the World Championship testing comes around and should be a good solid start with the team. Saying that, we are going there and I hope to have a winning start with the squad.”
Simon Buckmaster (Team Manager - Parkalgar Honda):
"I always liked racing in Northern Ireland as the hospitality and the people are just top class. The Sunflower is a great meeting to use as a shakedown for Sam and will let us get to know him and for him to be fitted to our race bike. It would be very nice to start with a win but we know it will not be easy against some tough competition."
SAM LOWES - 2010 BRITISH SUPERSPORT CHAMPION
10 Oct 2010Sam rounded out his 2010 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship season at Oulton Park today with a points scoring finish despite encountering problems over the weekend.
He recorded an 8th place at the Cheshire venue during a weekend of celebration for the team with Sam picking up the Champion's trophy and the team picking up the coveted Team Merit Award presented by ENI, the official fuel partner, for their efforts during the season.
For Sam, the weekend didn't end in the fashion he would have hoped as 8th place was the only time he'd been off the podium in the 11 races he'd finished this year but a practice crash left him back in 9th on the grid and his race was then further compromised when a first corner collision left him with damaged handlebars. He gamely battled on and clawed his way up into the top six before slipping back slightly in the closing stages with clutch problems to eventually claim 8th place and finish the season with a winning margin of 33 points.
Sam Lowes:
"The bent handlebars compromised my race as I couldn't ride as I wanted to but I concentrated hard on staying out of trouble after that and keeping everything clean and I was able to move up a few places.
It's slightly disappointing to end the season with an 8th but this weekend was all about getting the trophy and to finally get my hands on it is MEGA! I couldn't cap the year off with a win but it's been a great season and I've got to say a massive thanks to the team for making it all happen. I think we've done each other proud and I've been able to repay them for all their hard work with the title and I want to wish them all the best for 2011.
I've got the World Championship to look forward to now and I'm going to be doing everything I can over the winter to make sure I come out fighting for the title and the race wins."
Gary Stubbington (Team Owner/Manager - GNS Racing):
"To end the year with both the Rider's Championship and the Team Merit Award is absolutely brilliant and I'm over the moon with how the season has gone.
The last round has been slightly disappointing, but we've enjoyed ourselves massively and I'm very, very happy. The trophies we've picked up are for all the team members who have been simply awesome all year long and it's because of all their work and effort that we've achieved what we have.
The bikes have been brilliant all year long and it's been an unbelievable season for everyone concerned so roll on 2011!"
SAM TAKES HIS FIFTH WIN & IS CROWNED
BRITISH SUPERSPORT CHAMPION 2010
26 Sep 2010
Sam has clinched the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship title in fantastic style with a superb start to finish victory at a rain-hit Silverstone today.
He only needed a sixth place finish to claim the title following a dominant season and after qualifying on pole for the third successive race, he was confident of a good result. However, just before the start of the race, the rain arrived and following a crash on the opening lap involving a number of riders, the original start was aborted.
Undeterred by the conditions, he then rode a faultless race to take the win in the eight lap re-run by over 2.5 seconds to claim his fifth win of the series and with it, the prestigious British Supersport Championship with a round to spare as he and his GNS Racing team celebrated in fine fashion despite the damp conditions.
Sam will be hoping to add to his victory tally when the final round of the series takes place at Oulton Park in two weeks time whereby his incentive if he wins will be that he will have won 50% of the races in a memorable season.
Sam Lowes:
"It's just unbelievable! It's just a mega, mega feeling for me and I was in tears going across the line. I think I'm lost for words for the first time ever and days like this are the reason that you race bikes.
To win the race for the third time in a row and from pole position for the third time in a row, it's just unreal. I want to say a massive, massive thank you to the team and all the sponsors - we are ONIT!
We can now go to Oulton Park with no pressure for the last round and just enjoy it. It's been a perfect weekend and I hope we can do the same at Oulton."
Gary Stubbington (Team Owner/Manager - GNS Racing):
"What a year! It's been an absolute pleasure to work with all these guys. It's down to the whole team and each of our sponsors who have put every bit of effort in to getting Sam where he is now.
We've taken each race bit by bit and improved our results throughout the season. It's been a huge team effort and our goal now is to continue our hard work on into the British Superbike Championship next season if we can.
Sam had a brilliant ride and he rode like a true professional. We can now relax for the last race of the season at Oulton and hopefully we can do the same again. I'm absolutely over the moon, everyone involved deserves this Championship win!"
CROFT WIN FOR LOWES AS HE CLOSES IN ON THE
BRITISH SUPERSPORT TITLE!
12 Sep 2010
Sam has taken another major stride towards clinching the 2010 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship today when he claimed his fourth win of the season in a dramatic race at Croft.
He bounced back from a heavy crash in qualifying to steadily move through the pack in the race and when race leader Graeme Gowland's Honda expired, the race was ended early and Sam was able to add another 25 points to his total. The victory means he now needs just ten points from the final two rounds to crown a fairytale season.
Sam had been in fine form during practice and qualifying and clinched pole position but no sooner had he done so then he crashed heavily, and although he was uninjured the bike was wrecked and the team had to work until late evening to rebuild the machine in time for the race.
With the rebuild complete, Sam lined up in pole position although a steady start saw him drop back to fourth at the completion of the opening lap. However, there was nothing between the front group and as Sam steadily got into his rhythm, he was able to inch his way forward. By half race distance, he had moved up to third and with his brother Alex setting the pace at the head of the field, he was able to overhaul championship rival James Westmoreland.
Alex then made a mistake and dropped back to fifth allowing Sam to move up to second as he pressurised new race leader Graeme Gowland but with five laps to go, Gowland's engine blew up in spectacular fashion, depositing oil which brought the race to a premature end so the result was declared with Sam in yet another first place and Westmoreland second. His lead is now up to 40 points and he needs just a sixth place finish at the next round at Silverstone to be crowned the 2010 British Supersport champion.
Sam Lowes:
"To be so close to the title now is simply awesome especially as that was the most difficult race of the season. I managed to get pole but then seriously bent the bike with a heavy crash so I can't thank the team enough for all the work they had to do.
It took me a while to get used to the bike hence being back in fourth early on but when Alex came by me, it dragged me along and got me up to the pace I needed to be running at. My speed came back and it allowed me to go with Graeme and he was riding really well so I'm sorry for his bad luck. I was covered in oil when his engine blew and it was all over my visor and the bike but his bad luck was my good luck so we'll take it!
I'm really looking forward to Silverstone now and, hopefully, we can wrap up the title there."
Gary Stubbington (Team Owner/Manager - GNS Racing):
"What a race! It was really hard for us after what had happened in qualifying so I'm just so pleased for everyone that we've come away with the win. Sam rode absolutely brilliantly, like a true professional, and kept his composure throughout. He got better with each and every lap and it's fair to say that he's got better and better with each and every race this season.
It was a serious off in qualifying and the bike had to be completely rebuilt. I'm privileged to be working with such a fantastic group of guys, they're awesome and are simply the best there is. We only need a sixth place now to clinch the title, which will be like a dream come true. I'm not sure if my heart can take much more but roll on Silverstone!"
CADWELL PARK 'HOME' WIN FOR SUPERB LOWES!!!
30 Aug 2010Sam's march towards the 2010 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship took another major stride forward today when he dominated the race at Cadwell Park.
Competing at his local round and in front of many of his loyal friends, sponsors, and family, Sam was in imperious form all weekend which culminated in him taking victory to restore his 35 point lead in the title table.
However, after brilliantly claiming his first pole position of the season in qualifying, Sam and the team's day got off to an inauspicious start when problems in the morning warm-up session limited him to just one lap but with the problem soon rectified he came into the race in confident mood.
In front of a bumper bank holiday crowd, Sam hit the front after passing fellow Lincolnshire rider Ben Wilson early on and gradually extended his lead as rivals Graeme Gowland and Billy McConnell crashed out.
With the race only at a quarter distance, Sam had a healthy 2.3 seconds lead and by lap 11, his lead was at 4.4 seconds and he was able to ease off in the closing stages, and with the race ending prematurely due to an accident on the penultimate lap, he comfortably took his third win of the season.
The win gives Sam a 35 point lead in the Championship table but with main rival James Westmoreland fighting his way through to second in the race, there's still plenty to play for in the final three rounds. With 75 points still available, Sam can't afford to ease up and will be focusing on more of the same next time out at Croft on 10th-12th September.
Sam Lowes:
"I'm mega, mega happy to win at Cadwell Park, my local circuit. To get my first pole for the team and to turn that into a race win is fantastic. This track is where I grew up and first raced my bikes so it's very special to me. We had a problem this morning but all credit to the team, we got it sorted. Also I had a bit of arm pump in the race, but that's not an excuse but it is something I need to work on. We're leading the championship with three rounds to go so I just need to use my head, keep improving my consistency and my racing and keep ONIT!"
Gary Stubbington (Team Owner/Manager - GNS Racing):
"It's been quite a weekend as we've had a bit of everything. Sam slid off in practice on Friday, then he had a really good qualifying session yesterday and got pole position, then this morning we had a problem with the bike and we've ended up getting the win! I'm especially pleased for Sam with it being his home track. The team has worked hard as always and Sam has put the icing on the cake. We wouldn't be where we are without the effort and money put in by the sponsors and the help that has gone on behind the scenes, so it's a big thanks to them, this one's for you, you know who you are!"
ANOTHER PODIUM FOR LOWES AT BRANDS HATCH!
8 Aug 2010Sam's challenge for the 2010 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship remained on track at Brands Hatch today when he took another second place to claim his seventh podium of the season and maintain his lead in the title race with just four rounds remaining.
Sam and main Championship rival James Westmoreland held the top positions in an excellent qualifying session but Sam had to settle for second on the grid albeit just a fraction adrift of the Yamaha man so it was all set for a thrilling race.
It was Westmoreland who took the lead on the opening lap as Sam slotted in behind him in second place but a lap later he took over at the front and slowly began to open up an advantage. By lap five his lead was up to half a second but the safety car then came out due to an incident and that allowed the whole field to bunch back up.
On lap 12, Westmoreland made his move and relegated Sam to second and that was how they finished, Westmoreland eventually taking the win by just over a second. However, the 20 points gained for finishing second mean that Sam still tops the table with a healthy 30 point championship lead going into his home round at Cadwell Park.
Sam Lowes:
"It's been a good weekend and me and Westy have been pretty close throughout so fair play to him for getting the win; he rode really well and I can't take anything away from him. I was happy with how the race went and was just beginning to eke out a bit of a lead when the safety car came out and whilst it certainly knocked me out of my rhythm a bit, I'm not going to use that as an excuse. The tyres had lost a bit of grip but Westy was on a mission today and I had no answer to him so we'll look to get the better of him next time out. It was a good second place and 20 more Championship points so I'm still really happy to leave here with a 30 point lead."
Gary Stubbington (Team Owner/Manager - GNS Racing):
"It's been an awesome weekend again for the team and although we weren't able to take the win, we were there throughout the race and the 20 points for second is very good for the Championship with just four rounds to go. Westy rode a good race so fair play to him but we're happy with Sam's second place and all thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. Points make prizes, as they say, and whilst we're always looking for the race wins, we're delighted to leave here still with a 30 point lead and we just want to keep this momentum going until the end of the season."
WORLD SUPERSPORT TOP TEN FOR BATTLING LOWES!
1 Aug 2010Sam put in an excellent ride at Silverstone today when he finished in tenth place in the British round of the World Supersport Championship.
Competing as a wild card Sam improved his pace throughout the weekend as he got used to both the World Championship competition and the different specification Pirelli tyres and was rewarded with a brilliant top ten finish.
Despite suffering a heavy crash in Friday's practice session, Sam qualified in a strong 17th place but the original race was red flagged due to an incident involving Championship contender Joan Lascorz and Roberto Tamburini.
A good start by Sam in the restart saw him jump up to 13th place at the end of the first lap and two laps later he was up to 11th and on the threshold of the top ten as he overhauled regular World Championship riders Mark Aitchison and Fabien Foret. By lap five he had broken into the top ten having passed another former race winner Katsuaki Fujiwara, also setting what would prove to be the eighth fastest lap of the race.
At half race distance, Sam was challenging David Salom for ninth and for the next few laps enjoyed a tussle with the Spaniard as well as regular sparring partner Westmoreland and Fujiwara. Salom was the quicker of the quartet and got by Sam on the tenth lap but he stuck with him and the pair edged away from the group of riders behind. Salom continued to pull clear and eventually took eighth but Sam was secure in tenth and only just missed out on taking ninth from Massimo Roccoli at the end of 16 hard fought laps.
Sam Lowes:
"To get a good result in a race like that was spot on and to get eighth fastest lap shows just how much we worked over the weekend. I was on the back foot after crashing on Friday but then we turned it around and I got a good set up for the race and knew we would be strong in the race and we came good. We proved that we can do it on the World stage. I'd like to say a big thank you to the team for the opportunity and we're looking forward to Brands Hatch next weekend and to maintain our lead in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship."
Gary Stubbington (Team Owner/Manager - GNS Racing):
"To finish in tenth place in our very first World Championship race is absolutely awesome, especially as we had to overcome all manner of problems. The big crash on Friday set us back a bit and it was a real challenge to get used to the tyres and getting the suspension to work with them but everyone involved with the team did a phenomenal job all weekend and it was an absolute pleasure to see them being rewarded with such a strong race result. Sam's race pace would have been good enough for the second row of the grid and I really cannot ask for anything more from anyone. We're only a small team from Southampton but seeing how we've grown and developed over the course of the season is a real testament to everyone's hard work and efforts and we're all really happy and confident for the rest of the year so long may it continue!"
SNETTERTON PODIUM FOR LOWES AS NEAREST RIVAL
CRASHES OUT!
18 Jul 2010
Sam put in another excellent ride in round seven of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship as he finished in second place at Snetterton today. The 19-year-old challenged for the lead of the race throughout but eventually settled for second place and 20 points to substantially extend his lead at the top of the Championship table.
Having qualified second on the grid, Sam made an excellent start and immediately slotted in behind leader Graeme Gowland. He stayed there for the next two laps until Championship rival James Westmoreland overhauled him but no sooner had he done so, then Westmoreland crashed out at the chicane thus handing the title initiative back to Sam.
Positions remained the same for the next few laps although there was very little to choose between Gowland and Sam, the former just managing to keep the latter at bay. On the 18th lap however, Gowland made a mistake at the final chicane and it allowed Sam to move into the lead and raise hopes of a third win of the season for the Lincoln rider.
Gowland wasn't to be denied his debut win of the year though and he soon drafted back past Sam and was able to hold on until the chequered flag, eventually taking the win and with Westmoreland out, the 20 points for second place saw Sam's Championship lead extend from 15 points to 35 points, and put him in an excellent position with five rounds of the series remaining.
Sam Lowes:
"It was a great race and second place is a really strong result for both myself and the team. Sure, I'd have loved to have taken the win but having seen James crash out, I used my head and stayed focused on the overall Championship and with six podiums from seven races, being at the top of the table is a healthy position to be in. Graeme rode a great race and although I got by him near the end, he was able to get by me along the back straight and it just wasn't worth taking a risk and trying to get by him on the last lap. Twenty more points for the Championship is mega and I'm so pleased for everyone involved with the team as they've all worked incredibly hard again to keep us right up there throughout. I've got a wild card ride to look forward to now at the World Supersport Championship race at Silverstone and we can go there with no pressure and move forward again."
Gary Stubbington (Team Owner/Manager - GNS Racing):
"Sam rode a fantastic race and I'm glad he finished in second to extend his Championship lead. Obviously, it's always good to win but having seen his main Championship rival crash out, the most important thing was not to risk anything and come home in a safe position. Risking the extra five points for the win just wouldn't have been worth it as points make prizes at the end of the day."
WORLD SUPERSPORT WILD CARD FOR LOWES!!!
7 Jul 2010GNS Racing has secured a prestigious wild card entry for the forthcoming World Supersport Championship round to be held at Silverstone on 1st August which will see Sam Lowes take on the best in the world!!
Following a dominant performance at Knockhill last weekend, Sam currently leads the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and will be looking for a good result when he takes on the series regulars aboard his Honda CBR600RR for the Southampton-based team.
Sam has experience of racing at World Championship level having ridden for Italian Honda Team Echo CRS Grand Prix for five World Supersport races last season and in 2008, he raced in the European Superstock 600 Championship for Team Azione Corse with a best result of sixth at Donington Park.
Sam Lowes:
"This is fantastic news and a brilliant opportunity to test myself against the World's best Supersport racers. The new Silverstone track is awesome and will suit my style so I'm hoping we can get a good result. I'm not making any predictions but will be giving it my best shot and see what happens. After all, whilst this is a nice distraction, I remain fully focused on winning the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship for my team and sponsors this year, as it's thanks to them that I'm in this great position."
Gary Stubbington (Team Owner/Manager - GNS Racing):
"Sam's performances this year means a wild card ride at Silverstone is fully deserved and we aim to make the most of the opportunity. We have some modifications to do to the bike in order to comply technically and run slightly different fuel and tyres but we're confident that Sam can get a great result. It's credit to the team, which is brand new this year, that we are able to race in a World Championship event so everyone can be justifiably proud of our achievements to date."
CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER LOWES WINS AT KNOCKHILL!!
4 Jul 2010Sam has put in a faultless ride at Knockhill today taking his second win of the year in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship on the GNS Racing Honda CBR600RR. Having taken the lead on the eighth lap, he pulled rapidly away from the rest of the pack to secure his second win of the year and take a healthy 15 point lead in the Championship table.
He put in a solid performance in free practice and qualifying, held in dry weather, and was never outside the top five, eventually qualifying in fifth place. However, race day was anything but dry with heavy rain and strong winds hitting the Scottish circuit. Sam was equally comfortable in the wet though and, after completing the first lap in fourth place, he was up to third a lap later right in the wheel tracks of Glen Richards and Ian Hutchinson.
The safety car came out for three laps on lap five but when it went in Sam made his move and immediately moved to the front of the pack. Lapping over a second quicker than anyone else, he was almost six seconds clear when the race was stopped due to a number of incidents out on the track. The race was declared a result and with Sam's main rivals James Westmoreland and Billy McConnell only finishing in 6th and 12th respectively, the 25 points for the win have seen him move into the Championship lead at the half way stage of the season.
Sam Lowes:
"Fifth place in qualifying wasn't quite where I wanted to be but, wet or dry, my lap times were consistent so when I saw it was going to be a wet race, I just wanted to have a clean few laps before getting my head down. Once I got some clear track, I just tried to keep as smooth as possible and it all worked out perfectly. The bike was fantastic all weekend, as it has been all year and I'm over the moon to get my second win of the year. I'm leading the Championship now, which is obviously where I want to be, and with the Yamaha boys having a bit of an off day, there's a bit of a gap there now although there's still a long way to go. A massive thank you to all the team and sponsors again for giving me a great package to go out there and do the business."
